The Review of 2013 Chinese New Year Celebration

On February 10, 2013, hundreds of special guests and friends gathered in the ball room of InterContinental Hotel at plaza, Kansas City MO to celebrate the Chinese New Year, the year of snake. The celebration started at 5:30 in the evening with the silent auction where hundreds of fine Chinese man made craft were displayed and for auction. The guests met each other and exchanged the New Year greetings with each other. All proceeds from the auction had been put as the Scholarship fund. The complimentary wine reception was provided with Hors D'oeuvres and the music was performed by Michael Oshiver. Elaine Lu displayed hers Calligraphy skills where at the Culture corner people showed Chess, GO & Chinese chess. Unactus of UMKC girls also did the lantern display as part of the raffle ticket effort. Winner was picked to get a one night stay in the InterContinental Presidential Suite.

Then the party is announced by MC Xiaodan song, followed by a fantastic magic show "Tip of the Trunk" performed by Reza Illusions. Reza is intriguing, engaging, and captivating. He has the ability to connect with his audiences and let them feel his magic on a personal level. He isn't just a magician. He is an entertainer. Click here to see the clip.

After Reza's performance, Host Don Breckenridge came out the magic trunk to welcome greetings to the party.

The award ceremony John Phillips gave the awards to Jan Armstrong for her International Service, Linda Hanley for her Community Service, Heather McKinley, Joyce Cox and Larry Moore were given awards for their excellent service as well. While the party continues, all the guests enjoyed 10 course traditional Chinese dinners. Larry Moore, the auctioneer assisted by Colin MacKenzie, the Senior Curator, Chinese Art from Nelson-Atkins Museum. Dr. Tan the key note speaker from UMKC Bloch School of Business delivered his view of how the economy stands and where it will go from a global point of view. Jin Zhou then performed Chinese Zither. Storyteller shared a very old Chinese story "Madam White Snake". Reza went back to the stage to perform his "Metamorphosis" magic show and that concluded the Chinese New Year party event.
